A New Force We Found!
Ray has studied inventions and noticed that the time between inventions is decreasing at an exponential rate. So things REALLY ARE happening faster. Advances in materials yield advances in computers which yield advances in materials science, which… Living cells fit this model too (DNA/RNA are information processing technologies.) We are speeding up. Exponentially. What does it mean? Well I interpret this as some “force(?)” acting on us to accelerate us this way. Similar to the way mass falls into a black hole at an exponential rate. What is this force, why does it exist and where is our future in this ever speeding Universe? It is a huge question to answer.
At an ever growing exponential rate of change, Ray outlines a “Singularity” in information processing. This is where our information processing power accelerates so quickly we do not process our thoughts fast enough to understand what the technology produced or why. At that point, the technology will be beyond us. If we manage this transition well, our creations can do amazing things for us.
It is going to be a wild ride!
